Specifically, Emo Love originated in 2006 for a school assignment by illustrator Irene Strychalski, known as Reniedraws.
It was published on DeviantArt under the title Hugzz (a stylization of the word “hug“).
However, it’s a well-known and popular drawing from a website depicting a couple hugging, in an emo style.
Consequently, Emo Love went viral, specifically on sites like Metroflog, Hi5, and Messenger.
People downloaded the image, placed it as their profile, added phrases of various kinds (romantic, sad, etc.), or changed the colors (modifying some aspects).
